Top Optimization Software (October 2018)

1. System Mechanic Professional

99%Far superior to all optimizers we tested - and we spent the last few weeks testing every optimization program available. If you're looking for a significant speed boost to your PC and Internet, get System Mechanic Pro. Want the best repair program, this is it. Need a stabilizing influence to keep Windows in perfect shape for years, System Mechanic Pro provides rock-solid stability for a problem-free Windows' environment.

System Mechanic Pro Optimization SoftwareAfter the quick first-time scan, you simply click a button to get System Mechanic Pro to use its' comprehensive and very safe advanced optimization modules. It will fully optimize your PC and Internet, performing a massive amount of optimizations in just a few minutes.

Once finished, you'll immediately notice the improved responsiveness of your system. You'll never have to worry about your computer becoming slower over time because you can easily set System Mechanic Pro to automatically and continually optimize your system. We have seen improved speed gains even days later, as the intelligent (always learning) optimization routines continue to improve our system.

( EDIT: The last few weeks, the PRO version was on sale, but it's ending soon. )

Recommended for: All PC users that want the best PC and Internet performance possible. I mean, it's well worth it for the speed gains which led all of our tests. Add in the comprehensive system utilities which can fix just about any PC problem under the sun - and this is a must-have piece of software. If you need to repair Windows, stubborn corrupted data errors, hardware system conflicts, or even a broken Internet connection - System Mechanic Pro's repair functionality will kick in and work tenaciously to fix any problem. In fact, once you're fully optimized, it automatically prevents problems from ever cropping up. But if something does happen, such as a blackout causing system file corruption, System Mechanic Pro has all of the tools to get your computer back to perfect running condition.

2. System Mechanic (Regular Version)

95%System Mechanic contains many of the optimization features of the Pro version, but only the Pro version has slowdown protection and other advanced built-in modules to keep your PC and Internet running fast and at 100% rock-solid stability.

System Mechanic's optimization optionsThis really is a great program, it's just too bad the Pro version exists, or this would easily be our top choice.

I would only consider this basic edition if you want to have a great optimizing program for a lower price. However, the Pro version does go on sale quite often for an even lower price than the regular version.

Recommended for: A great optimization program, System Mechanic Regular would be the best, if not for the Pro version's additional features. Still, if the Pro version is too expensive for your liking, this vanilla version of System Mechanic is the perfect budget-friendly option.

MSRP: $39.95
Download Size: 32.55 MB

3. Wise Care 365 Pro

91%WiseCare 365Boasting one of the fastest scans available, Wise Care can fix your PC quickly and efficiently. While it lacks the full scale repair capabilities of System Mechanic Pro (above), it still does an admirable repair job.

The interface is a little confusing at first, but once your eyes adjust to the colorful palette, it becomes quite easy. Fixes a multitude of Windows errors and system problems. Also includes an excellent cleaning utility to get rid of junk files and other unnecessary storage stealing system files. The optimization benefits of Wise Care lag behind our top choices, but so do most others when compared against System Mechanic Pro.

Recommended for: Users with very low disk space, may want to take a look at Wise Care. But if you have serious problems or just want the fastest speed results possible, you'll need to look further up our list to one of the System Mechanic iterations.

4. Iobit Advanced SystemCare Pro

90%"Fixes and stabilizes your PC with a comprehensive repair module. Also protects your system in real-time. You should also consider System Mechanic for its' repair functionality along with superior speed increases."

With ASC you get top-grade system tuneup utilities with Windows problem solving capabilities. These repair modules are simple to use and very effective.

The most important areas of this excellent optimizer can be found by clicking on the "Quick Settings" link near the bottom of the initial startup screen.

Computer Optimization with Advanced SystemCareOnce you're fully in the program, you'll be able to set up for a Windows tuneup and further optimizations with just a few clicks. While most optimization software available today has repair modules included, only a few are capable of truly fixing serious Windows errors.

Our speed winner, System Mechanic Professional, also does a great job to repair problems and WiseCare is a great repair-centric solution. However, Advanced SystemCare is a bit easier to use for new users, who are the most susceptible to problems. But if you've had your PC for awhile and have no problems understanding and navigating through software interfaces, you may want to choose System Mechanic over ASC to get the serious speed boost after all of your PC problems are corrected.

Recommended for: If you need an easy to use program to fix a stubborn Windows problem. ASC can help you with most computer issues. From corrupt installations that have swamped your Windows registry with defunct entries, to startup and shutdown problems - ASC will solve all of those issues and more, quickly and easily. And if you get the Ultimate version, the included security protection will find and remove hidden malicious code that can be very taxing on performance while further protecting your PC from having problems again.

Choose Advanced SystemCare if you're a new user and want an easy repair, but consider System Mechanic (above) if you want a great repair function that also brings leading class speed gains with continual optimization. If your PC is full of problems, consider WiseCare 365 for the most comprehensive repair to thwart future slowdowns and errors.

5. AmigaBit PowerBooster Pro

90%PowerBoosterFor those new to optimization, Powerbooster makes optimizing your system easy as clicking a button, literally. of course, don't expect serious speed increases like the better programs further up our list.

PowerBooster is a simple program, coming in at at less than 10 MB, but it packs a pretty good punch considering. It will boost PC and internet speed, while also cleaning many junk files from your computer. Once we get this low in our list, it becomes more difficult to recommend these programs that cost as much as the far superior ones at the top.

Recommended for: If you're an absolute new PC user, you may find this easy to use program to be helpful in learning the ropes of optimizing your PC. But really, if you're going to spend that much on PowerBooster, you're better off just forging ahead with one of the System Mechanic versions since they're not that difficult to learn.

6. Ashampoo WinOptimizer

89%"With the WinOptimizer program, you will get faster speed to Windows through the easiest to use of all the interfaces we encountered. Excellent for new computer users that want a lightweight optimizer."

WinOptimizer Box and ScreenshotFull and direct Windows optimization that optimizes your system without going into the dangerous zone - unlike so many of the poorly programmed inferior optimizers that never made it to our list.

Provides steady speed increases. Repels slowdowns caused by unnecessary running processes, unkempt memory resources, and poorly configured default settings that plague many computers right out of the gate.

If you're a completely new PC user, you may find WinOptimizer to be very easy to use because of the very simplified interface. However, if you just take your time and read everything carefully, you'll certainly be better served by getting the leading speed optimizer, System Mechanic Pro above - while it takes a little more to learn for newer PC users, I'm confident you can learn it quickly if you've come this far to find our best PC optimizer page through a search engine or a link from a friend.

Recommended for: Users who want an extremely simple PC optimizer designed to help new users handle all of Windows intricacies. However, we can't help but think we're settling for less compared to other options higher up in our list. So if you believe you're determined to learn more about your computer over time, I would just jump into a better optimization program like System Mechanic to get the absolute best results possible. Because after some time using WinOptimizer, you may wish for more and end up getting another tuneup utility with more power in the near future.

Works with: All old or new PC Desktops, Notebooks, Laptops, & Tablets running...
Microsoft Windows® 10, 8, 7, Vista®, and XP®

7. AVG Tuneup

88%"Need a quick PC tuneup? AVG Tuneup performed reasonably well, but there are other optimization programs that will serve you better."

A fine Windows tuneup utility, AVG Tuneup claims to make old PCs live longer and new PCs run faster.

That's our goal as well. However, we found the other system tuners in our list to be more productive at increasing speed and cleaning our PCs of junk files.

AVG Tuneup ScreenshotIt's also somewhat expensive compared to better options out there, but it may be worth getting if you are already invested in their Anti-Virus program - to keep all of your eggs in one basket. They also have an AVG Ultimate edition that includes their Anti-Virus and Tuneup products in one easy to use security/optimization suite.

The cleaning utility included with AVG Tuneup did an adequate job, while the repair functioning was also above par compared to many other system tuning programs we tried. Just like all of the best solutions listed here, it can remedy a problem-plagued PC. However, we are optimization enthusiasts and will only settle for the best speed increases with rock-solid and error-free performance - and that's where AVG Tuneup fell behind a little for us.

MSRP: $49.99
Download Size: 3.0 MB (web installer)

8. Glary Utilities Pro

87%"A Windows system utility that provides a modest PC tuneup. Although it lacks numerous advanced optimization features of the leading optimizers, it still does an adequate job to keep your PC stable with just a slight performance boost."

Glary Utilities Box and ScreenshotThe spartan interface is the give-away that Glary Utilities will deliver a tuning experience that is meant to be simple and fast. Nothing fancy here, and there's not anything wrong with that, but we feel it needs more of the advanced features of the others to truly compete.

It does have over 20 tools to help you fix and speed up your PC. We have used better optimizers this year, but as Glarys Utilities continues to improve, we'll keep a close eye on it and be sure to update our rankings if it can improve a little more on the optimization side of things. Does everything well, just not the best in any particular category.

Recommended for: Really, only for those who have used Glary Utilities in the past and are comfortable with it. While it does an adequate PC cleaning, it's more than a little weak on full optimization. Unfortunately, it's what's missing that is the problem. While many others do have a slicker interface, they also have the goods with much more advanced optimization routines that performed much better than Glary Utilities. Because as it stands now, it needs a few more additions to be considered a leader in any of the key optimization categories. You'll do much better moving up the list to a more advanced and effective optimizer.

Microsoft Windows® 10, 8, 7, Vista®, and XP®

9. Advanced System Optimizer

87%"Minor PC speed improvements with scheduled automatic settings for those less interested in learning a programs intricacies. However, there is no Internet optimizer module, so if that's important, you may want to choose another option."

Advanced System OptimizerAdvanced System Optimizer provides a simple interface for quick optimization - plus an advanced section that opens the door to manual tweaking. With the informative help included, you will learn the simple tweaks in no time at all. Most users will be content with the nearly automatic optimization available within a few clicks. However, If you have the time, the manual adjustments within this program gives it the capability to provide slightly better results, but not to the scope of the top programs like System Mechanic much higher up on our list.

Recommended for: Users looking for a simple solution with good manual settings - for when you're ready to learn more. Contains decent computer optimization routines that will slightly speed up every thing installed on your PC. The game boosting function is available for offline games, but there is no Internet optimization to improve online gaming lag. So if you have connectivity issues, or you just need faster browser performance, one of the other PC optimizer options listed on this page may be your best path. Otherwise, this is only for those looking to manually optimize their PC performance, but definitely check out the others on our list before proceeding.

10. WinUtilities Pro

85%Winutilities Leans more towards cleaning than optimization as the name suggests. However, there are some optimizing features that work pretty well. I just wouldn't consider relying on WinUtilities for a full scale optimization.

As a lower ranked program, there's not much here to recommend compared to the other programs.

MSRP: $49.99
Download Size: 6.36 MB

11 to 24    Other PC Optimizers (Average Score)

80%There were some strong contenders that never quite made it to the top, but they're still good software products. Slimware Utilities SlimCleaner Plus, Anvisoft Cloud System Booster, Piriform CCleaner Professional Plus, Symantec Norton Utilities, and Comodo PC Tuneup. For those wondering about the regular version of CCleaner. It's a fine cleaning program, but it lacks the advanced optimization modules, and deep cleaning abilities to be considered a PC optimizer.

What about "free" PC optimizer downloads? Of course, we also tried "free" PC optimizer software, but were left disappointed and annoyed. Spyware, crashes, hidden malicious code, and our favorite, the reduced speed from the continual adware attacks and sending our data from our systems to their spying databases. Suffice to say, many of the free download options were ineffective for improving speed, in fact, most of them slowed or harmed our systems. While some were clean, their very minor performance gains were not worth the time to download, or risk having them update the software in the future to be like the rest of the free junkware.

How we rate PC optimization software

We use a complex formula to evaluate each program for the optimization benefits to our overall system speed. Other major considerations include installed programs performance, Internet speed, repair capabilities including the Windows registry, and a wide range of less important, but significant categories to round out our scoring.

In total, over 30 key variables are compared before rendering our final result. Unlike many of the other tech sites that only display a simple list, we have actually performed a complete evaluation. The official results are based on many considerations which may include our research, malicious code scans, tests, and hands-on experiences.

Hours upon hours have gone into the results you see here today. Every month we re-evaluate the scores and make adjustments as necessary. By choosing any of the software listed in our ratings, you will get an optimization program that is safe and effective. Of course, the higher up you go in our list, the better optimization you will experience. Based on the curve of reduced performance, I would recommend staying within the top 3 programs. And definitely go with the top program, System Mechanic Pro, if you're looking for excellent speed improvements.
