The safest approach is to take your time to learn each and every one of them. Keep in mind, you can safely undo many of your changes using the SafetyNet feature - available by clicking the SafetyNet link located at the top-right.
1 - Run a Deep System Analysis:
From the Overview main screen, click the down arrow to the right of the Analyze Now button. Then select Perform Deep Analysis by clicking on it. System Mechanic will then analyze your system for problems. This may take some time, so be prepared to wait or find something else to do.
During the scan, a box will appear asking if you wish to continue scanning for hard drive errors (recommended). If you just ignore it, the scan will continue on automatically.
After the scan completes, your system status will be displayed. You will have the option to "Repair All" or "View Problems". Advanced users may wish to check each problem individually and decide which ones to fix, while others may prefer to do the automatic repair. Common problems are misaligned files, security vulnerabilities, registry problems, and misconfigured Internet settings.
2 - PC TotalCare All-in-one Solution:
Another option to quickly check your PC for problems is the TotalCare scan. To access it, open Toolbox, then click All-in-one Tools. At the top-right, click on the "Start PC TotalCare" button. If you performed a Deep Analysis earlier, the recommended actions will be neatly categorized for you. Otherwise, your PC will be fully scanned for various errors. A few optional actions may also be available. Simply check the actions you want performed and click Next to proceed.
Some other Individual Tools:
If you want to maintain full control over what is scanned on your PC, here are some individual tools below.
3 - Repair Registry Problems:
In the main-menu on the left, open Toolbox then Individual Tools. Then select Repair Problems, find the Registry Tuner function and click Start beside the Repair Registry Problems. Now select the operation mode. The Quick Optimization and Repair is the safest. You may want to try the Complete Optimization and Repair if your PC is experiencing significant errors and performance loss.
4 - Defrag the Registry:
After repairing the registry, it would be a good idea to defrag it as well. From the afore-mentioned Individual Tools, click on Maximize Performance (top) and then scroll down to Registry Compactor. Click the Start button to the right of "Defragment and Compact the Registry".
After the fragmentation level is analyzed, a summary of the results will display. If your registry is fragmented, you'll have the option to check the box that says, "Defragment the registry the next time my computer starts". After checking the box, click the "Restart Now" link to the right. A box will open explaining the process, click Close after reading it. Another box will open asking if you want to... "Restart the system now?", simply click Yes to proceed with the Restart. Then your PC will restart and the registry will be fully defragged and optimized.
After your PC restarts, you can return to the Registry Compactor tool and run it again to confirm that your registry has indeed compacted for optimal performance.

In the main-menu on the left, open Toolbox then Individual Tools. Then select Repair Problems and find the Drive Medic function and click Start beside the Repair Hard Drive Problems.
We're going to do a Complete Search and Repair, so select that mode. The Drive Medic will scan your system and automatically fix the errors - unless you want more control - in that case click the Options button and configure as you wish. Then click Next and heed the warning that pops up and answer Yes if you want to continue. Be forewarned, this scan may take a while, so now would be a good time to get a healthy snack, or do a tedious chore you have been avoiding.
The progress screen will appear and the Drive Medic will begin searching for errors. The status of your drive(s) will be shown. Please let it finish completely - do not shut off your PC. Times will vary, but to give you some reference, it took about 30 minutes on my 300 GB disk drive.
After the scan finishes, if there are any problems, it will show Problems detected under the drive's status. Upon your next Restart of your PC, the problems will be analyzed and fixed in conjunction with the Windows repair tool. Click the Exit button and close the System Mechanic program, then proceed to restart your computer so the fixes (if any) can be applied. Place a check next to the drive(s) you wish to defragment. Then click Next.
